"Franco Finally Cracks It"

2 Jul 2018

After losing the final in 2017 and a semi final in 2013, Franco Mastroianni, from Club Toukley RSL, has taken out the annual "Cueing for Kids" Snooker tournament held at Club Toukley RSL on the weekend, defeating Kerrie Spindler, another local player making her first finals appearance after playing every year since the competitions inception, 3-0, in an entertaining final.

Both players had tough early round matches, but their superior play on the day got them through to the final and the large crowd of spectators enjoyed the fine snooker played by both players. Franco played steady snooker throughout the final, gradually wearing down Kerrie's 55 point start. But it was closer than the 3-0 score line suggests, with 2 frames going down to the black ball.

The "Cueing for Kids" handicap snooker tournament is an annual charity fundraising event conducted by Snooker and Billiards Central Coast. All donations raised go to the local Ronald McDonald House and Central Coast Kids in Need. Once 2018's efforts have been tallied it is anticipated that the "Cueing for Kids" concept will have raised total funds in excess of $30000 since first being held in 2004. This is a great result from snooker players and supporters for a very worthy cause.

Snooker and Billiards Central Coast's Chairman, Mick Newman, thanked Club Toukley RSL for once again sponsoring this event, which they have done since its inception, also the other major sponsors in Club Toukley RSL Snooker & Billiards Club and Coastwide Waterproofing. Along with all the other minor sponsors too numerous to mention. He also thanked everyone for their participation in making this year's event a success and called for continued support next year.

If you would like to be involved next year, keep the first weekend of July open for a great weekend of snooker for a very good cause.
